Aloha e Na Lawaiʻa

This members only page has Association documents, rules, and a place to bring forth ideas and issues. 

2025 Member Dues $20

Dues for 2025 for Makahanaloa Fishing Association members. These dues help our organization to operate to fulfill the mission of protecting fishing and gathering accesses for the communities of HIlo Palikū.  Dues are for ʻohana living in the same household. Dues to Makahanaloa do not entitle members to access the fishing gates within Pepʻeʻekeo. Eligible members are residents of Hilo Palikū who are shoreline fishers.

General Rules and Procedures

Rules of the Shoreline

  1. Show Aloha to Everyone! 
  2. Donʻt cut the Ironwoods 
  3. No open fires on the shoreline 
  4. Tell someone where you fishing and what time you going.
  5. Lock the gates behind you 
  6. Leave the grounds better than you found them 
  7. Take only what you need 
  8. Try to keep a journal of what you caught and what you saw 

Come to a Board meeting!

Get more involved. Come to a Board meeting and propose a new project or idea. The Makahanaloa Fishing Association is now a 501c3 Nonprofit. This means we can accept tax-deductible donations, write grants and contract services. If you have an issue or pilikia please bring it to light so we can work on it.
